Nixie Clock 1

My 1st ever Nixie Clock

Nixie Clock 1 was my personal development clock.

It uses GR10J Nixies with their red coating removed. I salvaged these Nixies from an old (non working) fequency counter I bought on eBay. It was used to develop the hardware and the majority of the software. Nixie Clock 1 is now retired from its development duties and to this day provides me with time in my workshop.

When I disassembled the frequency counter everything inside was sticky and dirty. This is how I 'discovered' that putting nixies in warm water is a very effective way to remove the red/orange coating, although I really only wanted to clean them.

I could show a picture of the inside of the box, but after some additions and many changes it turned into a rat's nest of wires and it's not a pretty sight.
